[For Global Customers]About the Acetate Yarns Used by Kawasaki Ribbon.

Weaving a Promise for the Future: Our Commitment Through Materials.

We have been manufacturing ribbons using acetate yarns for many years.
We used the acetate yarn “Linda” produced by Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (now discontinued).
We currently use Naia™ Renew acetate yarn manufactured by Eastman in the United States.

Some ribbon products made with “Linda” acetate yarn remain in stock.

The Dyeing Expertise of Acetate Narrow Woven Fabrics and the Beauty of Selvage Found Only in True Woven Ribbons.

In Japan, only a limited number of companies are capable of dyeing acetate narrow fabrics for floral and packaging applications using continuous dyeing equipment. Kawasaki Ribbon Co., Ltd. is one of them.

Please note that narrow woven ribbons are different from so-called “cut ribbons,” which are made by cutting wide fabrics into ribbon widths.

Narrow woven ribbons are woven as ribbons from the beginning. As a result, both edges are finished with woven selvedges, which provide the distinctive beauty and durability unique to woven ribbons.
By looking closely at the edges of the ribbon, the difference can be understood intuitively.

Born from Nature, Returning to Earth: Why Acetate Remains a Beloved Choice.

Acetate is a semi-synthetic fiber made from wood pulp.

Unlike petroleum-based synthetic fibers, it is characterized by its natural-origin raw materials.

Its soft luster, beautiful color expression, and smooth hand feel are the reasons why acetate has long been favored as a ribbon material.

The Next-Generation Choice: Reducing Environmental Impact While Preserving Texture.

Naia™ Renew retains these inherent qualities of acetate while being made with renewable wood pulp combined with a portion of recycled materials.
It preserves the expressive appearance and texture of conventional acetate, while incorporating measures to reduce environmental impact through careful raw material selection and manufacturing processes.

Delivering Materials with Confidence, Rooted in Transparency and Traceability.

Our decision to choose Eastman’s Naia™ Renew was not based on appearance alone.

Eastman places strong emphasis on:

🌿 The use of sustainably managed forest resources

🌿 Traceability of raw materials (clearly identifying where materials come from)

🌿 Manufacturing processes designed to reduce environmental impact

These principles form an important part of Eastman’s approach to material development.

In addition, Eastman is committed to transparency by providing systems that allow the background of materials and manufacturing processes to be clearly understood.
From the perspective of those who work with materials, this transparency is another reason Naia™ Renew can be selected with confidence.

New Standards for Ribbon Selection: Embracing Philosophy and Origin as Value.

Even when ribbons appear similar in look or feel,
there are differences in the materials used and in how those materials are selected.
Although these aspects are not always visible, we believe that the background of materials and the philosophy behind their production can, over time, have an impact on both the environment and society.

We view ribbons not only as decorative materials,
but as components used in gifts and creative works.
For this reason, we hope our ribbons can be chosen with confidence and as a meaningful option.

Just as color, shape, and price are considered,
we hope that factors such as
“what materials are used” and
“how they are made”
can also become part of the criteria when selecting ribbons.

The Future of Craftsmanship at Kawasaki Ribbon.

Kawasaki Ribbon Co., Ltd. will continue to focus on craftsmanship,
while keeping environmental considerations in mind and selecting materials suited to the times and to their intended uses.
