“One day, I’d love to take the Kurukuru Ribbon Stick to Kenya.”
That was what Ninjin told us this spring.
We were truly surprised. Kenya was far beyond anything we had imagined. Even more surprising, Ninjin had no previous connections there. Nevertheless, she patiently arranged everything herself, and in July 2026, she successfully held a Kurukuru Ribbon Stick workshop at Moyo Children Centre in Kenya.
Originally, she thought the workshop might happen next year. However, thanks to wonderful encounters and the kindness of many people, it became a reality much sooner than expected.
When we first created the Kurukuru Ribbon Stick, we never imagined it would one day reach children in Kenya. Seeing this small ribbon toy, born in Fukui, Japan, bring smiles to children on the other side of the world fills us with both surprise and joy.
A Message from Ninjin
These photos and videos were taken during our workshop at Moyo Children Centre.
By chance, several Japanese people living in Kenya joined us and kindly translated into Swahili, the local language. With their support, the children carefully completed their projects over the course of about an hour.
What impressed me most was their incredible concentration and how carefully they worked. Their patience and attention to detail were truly amazing.
The moment each child made the first ribbon loop, their faces lit up with smiles. It reminded me that the joy of creating is the same for children everywhere in the world.

It was incredibly delicious and turned out to be one of Kenya’s popular street-food flavors.
